Mickey Mouse degrees at Mickey Mouse universities?

Should people who do Mickey Mouse degrees, such as those in windsurfing, fast food management, rugby studies, golf course management, flower arranging and the rest, have to pay higher fees than those doing proper degrees?

Mickey Mouse degrees at Mickey Mouse universities?
Well, just to put a smile on your face, I graduated with a law degree in July. At the ceremony someone recieved a PhD for research into carparks and carparking.

And you call media studies a waste of time?
Reply:ouch! well here it goes: i am a student doing a media arts degree and i believe that courses like windsurfing, rugby studies, flower arranging, david beckham studies should be rid of. i think they irrelevant and perposterous, seeing as unlike cultural and media studies they do not make any proper use of academic/cultural work or theory, in relation to those courses.

but also i think that people shouldn't lump media studies into this group as well. i've studied media for 4 or 5 years already particuarly at access and now at degree level- and speaking from experience, it is more than just watching tv, film, reading newspapers and magazines and discussing about them. there are elements of philosophy, sociology, psychoanalysis, linguistics and cultural studies embedded in the study of media and of which are applied, utilised and linked to great effect. people seem to have this misconception that all media studies does is talk and discuss about tv, film, newspapers, celebrities etc in a way that people do in their everyday lives. but as a student of media studies, that's not true. likewise, i have studied people like theodore adorno, roland barthes, antonio gramci, pierre bourdieu, immanuel kant, claude levi strauss during my 4 years of studying media - and yet these are all philosophers or aka as key thinkers we come across in philosophy.

so therefore, i agree with you that mickey mouse degrees are pointless and trivial and of which should be axed, but in regards to cultural and media studies, i beg to differ.
Reply:Never agreed to the derogatory use of the Mickey Mouse name. I hope you reconsider
Reply:It makes the Government look good though.

Just how many jobs are there for TV presenters with media degrees?

I ARRANGE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS, but I can't deliver them myself.?

I'm somewhat agoraphobic, and though I love the people I'm sending the arrangements to, I can't go visit them without feel trapped and anxious.

I need to arrange for someone else to deliver them. Sometimes my husband will, but he's really busy. Sometimes the arrangements just sit on my counter and die.

What should I do?

hire the teenager next door, they can use the extra money and are always looking for a reason to drive..
Reply:employ a courier service?
Reply:Hire a helper. Give them a percentage of what you make. Just make sure what you do pay them covers the cost of the gas plus somewhat of a profit. Good luck!
Reply:You better hire one to do the job (delivery boy) for you. This saves time and you can arrange more.

Write a nice poem about your surrounding?

Observe things that are happening around you. create a poem, using details about one scene. example write about your cat strectching and yawning in the morning, or about a man at a bodega arranging flowers into bunches to be sold, or even about someone riding a bike down the street. try to slowdown your poem. use detail description. thanks!! :)

What Hobby makes you happiest?

is it art, golf ,football, flower arranging, politics or just Q%26amp;A,

please share it with us

What Hobby makes you happiest?
I have many hobbies but I think the top two that make me the "happiest" are bird-watching and wild flower arranging.

I encourage many birds to come to my garden and it cheers me up so much in winter; I have about 6 different feeders situated all over the garden and 3 of them are in a place where I can view them easily from inside. I grow bird-tasty berries such as holly and pyracantha and put satsuma halves on branches for the fruit eaters. I love watching them all and I love their voices so much; even when they squabble. When everything else looks dead and still in mid-winter, my world is a riot of colour and energy because of all my hungry visitors.

Because I love birds and have kept quite a few as pets (not wild ones!), I was attracted to grass. I picked a variety of fresh grass for my parakeets every day and was surprised by how many different kinds there are. So I use wild grass and some common wild flowers in flower arrangements, and a lot of them are weeds, but they are still beautiful if used right. I make it look like a microcosmos of a real meadow or riverbank or whatever. Just going all over the place on my 50cc scooter on a beautiful day to get inspiration, then finding my theme then picking and picking, makes me so happy! Then when I get home, doing the very natural and very informal arrangements makes me happy. A lot of thinking goes into colour and shape, and form, and I love that part.

Delivering them to people and seeing their delight makes me happier still!

I have never been paid for doing this, so it is a hobby, but have been asked by my local City Hall to decorate tables for environmental meetings; friends to do arrangements for weddings and christenings; producers for stage decorations etc. It makes me really happy that people value my arrangements enough to request them.

Autumn is just one of the best times for this, so I am already excited about my next project!
Reply:Thank you and everyone else for their answers, It's nice to know that you get so much pleasure out of you many hobbies, I agree Autumn is the best time of the year when all the trees change colour.

Anyone know where to find cheap fresh cut flowers in the Boston area?

I know there are wholesale dealers for the florists, but what about those of us who are just normal people. Where can I get loose fresh cut flowers (not in a bouquet) and not pay pre-arranged arrangement prices?

Anyone know where to find cheap fresh cut flowers in the Boston area?
Sorry I am not familiar with specific flower shops in the Boston area, but what you are looking for is a Flower Market. They are a lot cheaper and they sell flowers individually so you can make your own bouquets or whatever. Try to search for flower markets in boston.

Good luck!

Does anyone make adjustable neck vases?

I am looking for a vase with an adjustable neck so that you can arrange different quantities of flowers perfectly with the same vase, tighten the neck for a single rose, and loosen the neck for a bouquet. Does this invention exist?

Does anyone make adjustable neck vases?
no it doesn't, but you can do the same thing buy buying floral foam. Moisten it with water and stick it down in the vase, then you can put as few or as many flowers as you like and it will hold them in place.

5 different flowers and you have to arrange them 3 diff types per vase how may combinations can be made?

You figure the arrangements like this:

choose any of the 5 then any of the 4 remaining, then any of the 3 remaining. So, the answer is 5x4x3=60

At an annual flower show, 6 different entries are to be arranged in a row...?

How many different arrangements of the entries are possible?

If the owners of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries will be awarded prizes of $100, $50, and $25 respectively, how many prizes can be awarded?

At an annual flower show, 6 different entries are to be arranged in a row...?
There are 6 things taken 6 at a time.

So the possible arrangements are 6! or 6*5*4*3*2*1, or 720.

I don't quite follow the second part of the question. . . there will be only one 1st, 2nd and 3rd awarded for a total of $175 awarded. Do you mean how many possible prizes are there? Each person could get 1st, 2nd or 3rd (assuming each is owned by a different person) so 6 * 3 = 18.

Or when her mum was in the amature dramatic society and someone in the same play got murdered. WOW there is a theme starting....do you think her mum could be a serial killer! Gardens for all year long?

Hi. I am looking to plant a garden, so that it has flowers in the spring, summer and fall. I bought some tulips, phlox, anemones, azelas, impatiens etc in the spring, I have some late spring/early summer tulips, tiger lilies, coreopsis, black eyed susans, roses, dahlias, etc for summer. I have mums and purple empress grass for the fall. What else do I need? I am looking for a site that can give me some good ideas about arranging flowers and plant ideas that I can use to make my gradens pretty all year long. Please help. Thanks.

Gardens for all year long?
I call my technique layering and I'm still still learning how mine works. On the surface it seems an easy task, get some good books and catalogs, look up some flowers of various height with overlapping and sequential bloom times and that's that, right ? Wrong !! I've tried to get those plants to read the books and catalogs many times with no response. I know I've done everything right when my garden is mature and it takes on a will of it's own. It then begins morphing daily into something new every year with very little effort on my part. If you're ever walking by my house, stop and I will explain more about it. After a flower bed matures and reaches an equilibrium, most people try to maintain this static stage for years. I get bored and start all over again with a different plan about every 3-5 yrs. For me it's similar to rearranging the living room. I try to use three or four of the largest shrubs or perennials to visually give a core for the new garden. Grow a lot of of annuals in one and two gallon pots. As the seasons change, you can use these pots as color and fillers before or after another plant flowers. Just tuck a few here and there or group them all to together for an instant garden on a lark. RScott
Reply:you can add snowdrops that bloom in late winter and early spring. but, I live in zone 5a... might be different for you.

Naruto Q - What age do the kids enter ninja academy?

It's so confusing. They show flashbacks of Sakura's when she's younger and doesn't have any friends (flower arranging). But is she in ninja academy at this time?

Naruto Q - What age do the kids enter ninja academy?
They enter around the same age a regular kid would enter school, around 5 or 6. The scene with Sakura and the flowers took place while she was in the Ninja Academy. If you listen to the instructor she was teaching them how to act like regular women so they could easily blend in with normal people while on missions.
Reply:Silly girl,

You aren't *made* a ninja.

YOU ARE BORN A NINJA.
Reply:hmm...depends on weatjer dey wanna be ninja or not, some of de people in de village aren't. I think if dey were ninjas, dey would enter out de age of 5-7, as dey shoed flashbacks when sasuke was young he was alrdy in de academy.
Reply:What age do they enter the academy?

Depending on their skill level ( if they/re ready or not) They enter around the age of 6 years old

Was Sakura in the academy at the time?

It is confusing, but I do believe she was. Because the teacher was talking about the girls becoming Kunoichi, and thats a female ninja

Flower arrangement?

I want to make a flower arrangement for my mother for her b/day. Using real flowers. Can I buy any I want and put them together? What kinds of flowers do well together? I was thinking some carnations, tulips, roses maybe. Those sorts. Colorful.

Also, once i have them arranged and cut, is it ok to tie the bottom part of the stems with a rubber band, so it looks neater?

Are all flowers cut the same? About 1 1/2 inches diagonal from the bottom?

Flower arrangement?
You can go to the grocery store and buy any single stems they have, plus filler and greens, european market bouquets are also sold and you could get one of those and add the extra flowers you pick out, the person there will help

you out.

I think you just want to bouquet them for your mom, because arranging them, they would be either in a vase or in floral foam. It is ok to bind them, as long as they are not out of the water long.

When flowers come into a floral department they are all cut the same. By the time you get them from the store they have probably been cut at least 4-5 times
Reply:tomtay had very good suggestions too. Report It

Reply:Since its springtime any type of flower is going to be nice..I like tulips, and purple Iris, Gerber Daisies, and stargazers ..Carnations are o.k. but go for the unusual...Add some yellow button flowers to the arrangement and dont forget to use Leather fern for your greenery..You may have to go to a florist and buy each individual flower and greenery. .It will be fresher than the grocery store...Cut your flowers at a angle before putting them in water...You may want to arrange them in a vase, if not wrap them in a rubber band to hold the shape of the arrangement...You can wrap them in colored cellephane, then make a bow from some floral ribbon.

Anyone out there good at arranging parties?

im having a retirement party/luncheon for my friend, about 40 people will be attending ..besides food, balloons and flowers i dont know what else to do a slide show??? please need some imput!!!

Anyone out there good at arranging parties?
In many ways a retirement party is similar to an anniversary party. There are memories to share, remembrances of those no longer here, still a future to look forward to.

It may be important to remember your friend had a life OUTSIDE of work and involve people or cover events during that time.

A collection of anecdotes recorded on cd/DVD from past and present friends and coworkers/supervisors/employees may be nice, as well as framed photos of him as he (she?) progressed through the company. Many ideas may be available as tangible mementos of his service.

And do not forget some form of receiving line, preferably informal, where the party attendees can greet the Guest of Honor and wish him well or thank him or say good bye, etc.

Reply:My father just retired. All of his "bosses" along the way (he worked for the same company for 40+ years) got up and each spoke about working with my dad. They also took a lot of photos of people around his office and made a CD/DVD out of it. My dad also was given a chance to get up and talk about his years with the company and say thank you. And they served individual sized desserts that had his name on them and how many years of service he had. Hope that gives you some ideas.

I had an Idea for a Charity, What do you think?

Alright, Heres my idea. I want to go to flower shops and collect their scrap flowers to make arrangements for patients in hospitals ( Mental, or Health). I would use paper cups as mini vases, and take them to a children youth group for the kids to paint up pretty. I'd then arrange the flowers in the cups and give them to the long/mid term patients in the hospitals, hopefully on a weekly basis. Any comments on this idea? Overlooks?

I had an Idea for a Charity, What do you think?
That is a wonderful idea and wow that y ou thought it up your

Is there ANYWHERE I can buy (cheap) just a few flowers so I can arrange them myself?

I usually arrange about 15 medium vases and 5 large vases per week. I want the wholesale price, because I'll be a regular customer, without the huge quantity. I'm a one-lady charity service (I give the flowers away to sick %26amp; forgotten). I live in Dallas, though I'd love to order over the internet...I order my supplies that way...

Is there ANYWHERE I can buy (cheap) just a few flowers so I can arrange them myself?
Wow. what a terrific thing you are doing. I would try Cos co or Sam's Club and Greenhouses. If you do bulk buying, I don't see why they wouldn't work on the price for you. Tell them you are doing it for charity too! Good luck!
Reply:Over the internet...I'm not sure. Here in CT you can go in most grocery stores to get flowers that you can arrange yourself.
Reply:there are lots of places on the internet -- i have gotten orchid sprays and anthuriums in bulk for pretty cheap. just google. they ship directly from the grower -- so its cheap for you.
Reply:Go to the grocery store at night. They usually discount the flowers in the evenings...also ask them when they get rid of the flowers (there might be one night a week). You might be able to pick them up free! And they will still be in decent shape.

I know it's not over the internet, but hey! if you want cheap stuff...

EDIT: Ok, you confuse me. Your question says "just a few flowers" and "without the huge quantity". Anyway, it's nice that you are giving the flowers as charitable donations. Good job.
Reply:the cheapest i know is food basics/ no frills etc.

well u can talk to the manager of the store. because these people take off the flowers after 2 to 3 days though the flowers look fresh.

u can talk to the manager so that he will sell u for cheaper price instead of throwing them in garbage.

he might understand ur social cause

Is online school worth checking out?

I'm currently a stay at home mom. I am going to my community college, but they don't offer more than an associates degree in most areas. I want a law degree and I can't commute to a four year school because it's two hours away. Is an online school a viable avenue to pursue or do they only have flower arranging and private detective courses? I don't want to give up my education, but I need options.

Is online school worth checking out?
Stay away from purely on-line schools. Those which are not scams are still giving you a really inferior product. What you should look into is registering at a real university which has a strong distance education component to the education they deliver. This will let you earn your degree and the degree will be worth something.

Good luck.
Reply:My girlfriend is earning her Bachelor's degree online as we speak. She found her school through this website:

http://ecollege.better.ws

That website will help you pick out a school that's right for you and your schedule, and can even help you find a financial aid program to help cover the costs. Report It

Reply:I used University of Phoenix. They offer a lot of courses. It was not too expensive, but was worth the $, with my busy schecule and all. I could take the classes whenever I wanted. Got my BA in Biz Info Systems in 3 years. They have a lot of options.
Reply:Boy, are you off base. Almost all colleges offer online courses and more and more are offering online degrees, and there are a number of colleges that are entirely online. The only limitations are degrees that require lab courses, such as biology and chemistry, and with current video technology, there are even schools moving into trying video-labs. Even some of the Big 10 schools, like Penn State, are offering online degrees. Online courses from accredited colleges and universities are as legitimate as those taken in any other accredited school. What college would you like to attend? Go to their website and see if they offer online degree programs.

People who criticize online degrees are out of touch with reality. There used to be a number of "diploma mills" which offered degrees by mail or online, but with the advancement of technology, current online programs that are accredited have to meet the same stringent requirements as any traditional school--they use the same standard textbooks and you will complete assignments that are just as difficult, if not more, since you don't have a teacher baby-sitting the class. You will have interactions with the teacher and other students in your classes via email, online discussion boards, chat boards, and online debates.

If you want a law degree, I hope you realize that it is a graduate degree, not a 4 yr. degree. You have to go to law school after completing your BA or BS, which is another 3 yr, and the competition to get in is fierce. Good luck.

What are the best flowers for a January wedding, esp. if you are self arranging?

roses are always in season, and you really cannot screw them up. otherwise, there are forced bulbs, calla lilys, gardenias, freesia, amaryllis, and more. orchids and stephanotis are really popular right now too. of those.... I think stephanotis (jessica simpsons bouquet), and calla lillys are the easiest to arrange, and with the roses, or calla's you can get invitations that match them.

What are the best flowers for a January wedding, esp. if you are self arranging?
If you're doing the arrangements yourself, go for flowers that you can arrange days ahead of time and will still look fresh. Carnations have a long life, are inexpensive, and come in many colors.
Reply:sigles or silk is good
Reply:either use silk or get singles for the attendents to carry..star gazer lillies and tulips are good choices.

DO you have any flowers growing in your yard?

I LOVE flowers. I hate working outside, but I love to look at them out my patio window and I love to arrange fresh-cut flowers. Tell me about YOUR flowers.

DO you have any flowers growing in your yard?
117 different kinds all over my yard, both back and front. I too hate working in the garden so I have flowers that grow every year, never need weeding... I love it! I always have fresh flowers in the house, from spring to fall. The trick is to put in flowers that have different growing times.

I have:

roses

phlux

poppies

daisies

black eyed susans

irises

lilies

wild flowers

azalea tree

lilacs

and tons of others...
Reply:Asian Lillies, Roses and Rose of Sharon, very pretty and colorful.
Reply:I have pentas and vinca blooming like crazy in my front yard. My backyard has hybiscus, canna, butterfly bush, lantana, plumeria and angel trumpets blooming.
Reply:I was only going to do veggies and herbs this year to really master them, but I got seduced by the beauty and snuck in some flowers with no knowledge of what to do for them...

sunflowers--grew two seeds from the bird feeding black oil seeds in a tall rectangular plastic cat litter container that i spray painted royal blue. they grew, flowered and made early seed, but in the end needed more space and keeled over. left them on the ground and the chipmunks greedily and aggressively harvested the immature seed. guess i would call this a success.

cosmos--from seed. started the short kind and the tall kind in short and tall painted cat litter boxes, again. short kind is fine, but tall kind keeled over again, but pretty flowers...

sweet williams--bought these from nursery, both the mini mini kind and the 10 inch kind. these are the best flowers ever. they withstand any kind of tough condition--heat, drought (from forgetting to water), heavy deer foraging, and they just keep coming and coming... I'm having these every year... and i'm growing from seed next year.

nasturtiums--from seed %26amp; purchased. right now heat and aphids are killing them. but they were glorious, easy and even edible, if you like cress and such. I loved eating the leaves in salads and sands, but while many rave about eating the flowers, I'ld rather look at them. they should revive themselves come fall so i'm letting them be...

short hybrid nicotiana--could not resist these pretties at the garden center. who could? and like the sweet william they are strong--they too have withstood supercrowding, heat, drought of a forgettful gardener and heaving deer foraging and wow at certain times were like a heavy ball of flowers. Unlike their bigger natural cousins, the scent is not as strong, BUT twice I have seem a hummingbird hovering around them...

sweet peas--startedf from seed in cups. came up so strong. had so much to do that they stayed in cups until they were 2 feet, lol. transplanted a few really late, way after their season and got 1 flower, lmao... still, that one flower is the prettiest flower ever (curled like a pea flower, but larger, almost pearly and a rich deep red-purple), so will try again next year. think if i had transplanted in time, would have been no problem. they were strong and vigorous.

I'm now more excited for flowers than veggies... and am going to seed some seeds this fall and let them weather over the winter and bloom next early spring (I hope!)--poppies and sweet peas... when i think of how well they did with my ignorance, neglect and abuse... i'm really excited to think how pretty they might be next year when! i do everything right!
Reply:i love the spring bulbs such at crocus, tulpis, daffs, hycians, and iris are simply the best. they take so little care and will bloom any where from march till aug. after they bloom you can mow or weed eat them down (or cut them the right way) and all of these come back year after year. iris need very little dirt, love sun, little water, and you can just set them out and they will root themselfs all the above can be planted in or out of flower beds, i have them all planted around trees and rocks and lining the fence. if you want a great tree go for a paulowania emperess tree (chinesee dragon) fast growing (6-10 foot a year) blooms early spring and has leaves as large as dinner plates!!
Reply:i don't have any yard...but if i do i would love to have lots of sun flowers
Reply:I have hundreds and hundreds but to lazy to type them and cannot spell half them.

How to arrange wooden flowers into bouquets?

any links? videos? tips? thanks

How to arrange wooden flowers into bouquets?
The easiest way is to put them in an opaque vase that you can not see through and use styrofoam in the bottom in which to anchor them. The styrofoam will hold the wooden stems in place so that the flowers don't fall over. You can hide the styrofoam with spanish moss and secure it in the vase with florists tape.

What is the best way to send someone a rose delivery internationally?

I would like to send roses to my girlfriend in Mexico but the big name floral companies charge a fortune. Is there a cheaper way to arrange a flower delivery to her home there?

What is the best way to send someone a rose delivery internationally?
my bf sent me roses to italy for my anniversary. what he did was search for a florist near my hotel and they only told him they accepted one credit card. luckily it was the one he had! he gave them his credit card number and they charged his card. it was such a surprise when they delivered it to my hotel!! its such a sweet idea, im sure your gf will love it!!
Reply:NO, foreign country do not always have the same services we do. So you can order her but the cost comes from no basic services there

and i guess some Spanish speaking skills might come in handy (:

What to do with a parent drug addict in the house?

My mother is a pill popper and shes downstairs arranging flowers. We got in a fight already, and my dad is on a business trip, so I think thats why she is popping pills.

But what do you suggest I do?

What to do with a parent drug addict in the house?
You learn from her mistakes. That is the first most important thing for you to do.

If you're mother is "popping pills" it is something she does and has done before tonight. She is well aware of what she is putting in her mouth, and you're father probably is aware of it also.

If you feel grown up enough you can confront her and ask her why she takes them and what they are for. Let her explain to you her version of the story.

Maybe by you asking in concern she will have something to think about.
Reply:if you are old enough to move out then do so if not try and get help for her (either way do that) but ultimately it is up to her to take the help
Reply:GET HELP!! your mom may be doing this because she is depressed. Call an anonymous tip line or organize a family intervention
Reply:If you want to be discreet leave drug addiction pamphlets where she can find them. When Dad gets home mention it to him what your concerns are and maybe mention to him that if you noticed who else did and see if he can get her into some treatment program. My experience is most drug addicts until they reach rock bottom loose everything they have and admit they have a problem don't want the help or mask there addiction around those they don't want to hurt. Be careful on how you broach the subject with your dad but tell him you didn't know what to do.

Do you practice a personal craft or art?

Like Watercolor painting, sculpture, flower arranging...just being in nature....hang gliding, photography, poetry etc....what is yours....

I like inspirational stuff anything that deals with inspiration and peace haha I will have a store one day thats called the inspiration store of wonder hahahaha

Do you practice a personal craft or art?
All art is personal, but, I like to share everything with the world since it is my inspiration. Compensation and compliments are nice since they allow me to pursue other artistic avenues. I paint, write, poetry, photography, draw, screenprint, sculpture, inventions, cooking, creating ideas, building things, gardening, etc. Mostly just learning is great - I'm going to learn glass blowing next.
Reply:writing, poetry, music, singing

great store idea, i'd shop there.
Reply:Photography, Writing, and just breathing in and out in my garden.
Reply:Yes. I write, sculpt, and compose piano music
Reply:Yes, I cook. Not everyday cooking but gourmet cooking. My work is very technical and it is my escape, the art of fine cooking. The fact that I can share the results with others just makes it better. But the real relaxation comes from making foods, especially truly decadent desserts.
Reply:playing the flute in the middle of our creek... totally peaceful :)
Reply:I play guitar! love it =]

And i like to draw even though I'm not very good at all...but i still enjoy it! I like to write some songs and poetry sometimes, but inspiration doesn't come too often.

And I would love to take a photography class because i love photography but I don't really know anything about it. But I still love it! woohoo

make sure when you search for an arrangment that you have typed simply "mug".

why not make your own? its so easy to do. A florist trick is to use floral tape or wire to create a grid ontop of the mug, this keeps flowers upwirght.

my favorite is to use a frog

they can be used in almost anything.

What do the letters K,C,A,G represent is identifying the plant by it flowers?

i know it has to do with how the flower is arranged but i don't know what thy represent or how it is used. ie K2-4 and so on. sometimes even with the infinite sign or something.

What do the letters K,C,A,G represent is identifying the plant by it flowers?
K = calyx, the sepals; also symbolized Ca

C = corolla, the petals; also symbolized Co

A = androecium, the stamens; also symbolized S

G = gynoecium, the pistil(s)

These are shorthand symbols used to write a floral formula, which tells you about the construction of the flower. For instance, a tulip flower has the floral formula

Ca 3 Co 3 S 6 G 3 (with a circle around the 3 of the G to symbolize three united carpels)

The infinity symbol is used for "many", which is defined as "more than 10" -- so poppy stamens are symbolized as

S infinity, for instance.

If you poke around on the web using the search term "floral formula" you'll find some examples written properly, as I cannot write them here.

To put feeds via RSS on your 360 page you should know that you can add feeds from any site that enables a RSS feed, the orange button with "XML" on it at different sites shows that we can add the services of that site to any page via RSS.

1. To add the feed first of all goto the page to which you want to use as feed on your 360.

2. From there look for the orange button, right clicko on it and select "Copy Shortcut". Now you have to paste this shortcut in your 360.

3. Goto your .360 and click on "Edit Feeds"

4. On the new page you will see three URL modules, paste the shortcut on any one and then click "Save"

RSS feeds are updated on a schedule, so it may take a few hours before your feeds appear on Yahoo! 360.

Flower food? How do florists do it?

I've been into arranging flowers lately... found myself buying tons of flowers just to find that it'll only live for about 24 hours before wilting away. How come florists can make wedding centerpieces days in advanced and the flowers can look fabulous the day of the wedding, but my flowers look dead and wilted the day after arranging it?

do florists put something in the flower water? I think i heard from someone that mixing the water 3 parts water 1 part sprite/7 up will help the flowers live longer.

True?

Flower food? How do florists do it?
It all depends on how you cut the stems (woody stems need to be slightly crushed to allow water retention; some stems need to be cut under water, etc.), and how far along in the budding cycle the flowers actually are. If the flowers you're buying don't have many buds, then they'll "pop" and die that much quicker. Also, if you're buying roses, beware of "stripping" - this happens when an unscrupulous seller has roses that have slightly opened, but they strip the lower outside petals off to turn it into a bud again. Look for white at the bottom of the "bud", and the fact that the terminal leaves at the bottom are opened up much further than the "bud". This has been stripped. It'll open that much quicker, because it's NOT a bud.

You could also try chilling the water and flowers before by putting them in the fridge - just like we florists have done for eons. Also, make sure all leaves below the waterline are taken off - it will cause reaction and mold. I myself try not to put anything in the water except professional food; but you can try a half-tab of Alka-Seltzer. Try to avoid anything with heavy sugars, as it can clog delicate flora, and avoid aspirin as it can burn.

Good luck!
Reply:You did not say how you are arranging your flowers, if you are using Florist foam, or some form of vase ??

Florist Foam should be soaked in water for at least 24hrs before you use it for arranging and usually have some kind of water reservoir that it can sit in. You can also buy little water containers that a stem of a flower can go in to put in you're arrangements. Most arrangements need misting if there is no water provided.

Also, you should choose your flowers carefully as some wilt very soon after cutting where others can last days, care should be taken with the cutting of the stems making sure they are clean cut an preferably on an angle.

There a little tricks for all types of flowers.

For instance here where I live, Tulips are now flowering, if you pick them and put them straight into a vase by morning they will be hanging over the sides. If you pick them, wrap their stems in newspaper so they are straight and put them in water over night they will stand straight and tall in the morning for you're arrangement. Do a little research and good luck.
Reply:While a flower is attached to the plant, it receives nourishment allowing it to grow and develop. When cut from the plant, it loses its source of nourishment and water. Fresh Flower Food was developed to simulate the flower's original environment, and allow the flower to fully develop (open).

The key functions of a fresh flower food are:

- Provides food in the form of sugars to keep the flowers alive. Just like ourselves, flowers use carbohydrates as an energy source.

- Helps lower the pH, which keeps the water/food conducting system in flowers working at maximum efficiency.

- Stem unpluggers

Homemade versions such as copper pennies in the water, aspirin, soda, etc., do not contain all of the necessary ingredients vital to sustaining flower life. For the most part, they are ineffective and end up costing you more than fresh flower food.
Reply:A florist I knew used 1 teasp. houshold bleach plus 1 teasp. sugar in the water. The bleach stopped everything going slimy because of bacteria and the sugar acted as a food.
Reply:I have liquid, where do you live I will send you sample product

When do certain flowers open and close?

"Carl Linnaeus, the eighteenth-century botanist, even invented a floral clock. Noting that petals open and close at the same time each day (because they're synchronized to how much light they receive), he arranged flowers in sequence, using the movement of petals to tell time." --Diane Ackerman.

Does anyone know of any books that can tell me what time of day certain flowers open and/or close?

Does anyone know of any flowers that open at 3:00 in the afternoon? This need not be exactly to the minute!

Thanks in advance.

When do certain flowers open and close?
Four O'clocks open in the afternoon. They're a member of the morning glory family. Moonflowers open in the evening - around dusk.

Why are flower petals arranged in the golden ratio?

Flower petals and pinecones are two examples of spiral designs that use the Golden Ratio. Why this ratio of 1.618? This ratio provides the flower petals and leaves with maximum exposure to sunlight and allows rain drops to flow down to the root in the most effective manner. The sunflower positions its seeds in a Golden Ratio spiral because it is the most effective manner of having as many seeds in a given amount space possible and allowing them to remain un-crowded within that space.

Why are flower petals arranged in the golden ratio?
It has to do with how efficiently the petals can be placed. As the flower grows, its petals take up more room. The golden ratio makes it so the packing of the petals does not become too crowded in some areas and completely empty in others. The space that the plant has to work with is best optimized when the petals are arranged in the golden ratio.

Contact your local Sales Tax Office.

You need to find a business name for the Tax Number. $10.00 for a business name usually. Use to be $25.00 for the Tax Permit....
Reply:The only reason you need a license is to collect the tax when the flowers are sold. Tell the wholesale house you want to pay cash.
Reply:Greetings,

I have baught wholesale flowers from www.nationalflowermart.com before and they were very friendly, and helpful. They ship nationawide for free! and seem to be very reputable as I was referred to them online, and can help you out with whatever flowers you need. They carry allot of diffrent kinds. We got roses, for our wedding which lasted 8 days! They were unbeleivable. Well I hope this helps good luck!
Reply:yes, you do need to get a business name, and a TAX id number. Even on some wholesale companies online, they require a tax ID...so go to the County for that!
Reply:Do you have any friends in the flower business? If so, ask them if you can get a deal through them.

I bought all my flowers for my wedding at the local craft store. I know if you are pressed for time then this won't help. Hobby Lobby has their silk flowers on sale for half off several times a year. Right now the single stems are on half off until May 5. Bushes are half also. I used a whole bunch of bushes/garlands for my flowers. I cut them and arranged them how I wanted them.

Also other places like JoAnn's and Michaels have sale like this. I know if you have a Garden Ridge then that is an excellent place too.

Is there a website where i can choose different flowers and arrange them into a wedding bouquet?

I want a few different flowers and i want to know what they would look like arranged.

Is there a website where i can choose different flowers and arrange them into a wedding bouquet?
Its probably a good idea to go to a flower shop in your area and try some stuff out. Most things that look amazing on the internet wont look nearly as good as the picture shows. And like the other person said, some flowers will do a lot better then others during the day of the wedding. Some flowers are "picky" and need to have some source of water, while others can be out of water the whole day and still look amazing.

What do the fountain and the silvery-clear liquid symbolize?

There was a frail old lady with silver threadlike hair tending carefully to her flowers in a magnificent garden. This was the most elegant garden I had ever seen. There were somewhat robust hedges demarcating the garden. There were bright yellow flowers that made a circle just inside the hedges. There were unerringly picturesque red, blue and violet flowers arranged in an indefinite manner, a design that she alone could comprehend. And in the middle was the piece de resistance; a shimmering brazen fountain that dispensed silvery-clear liquid. I couldn’t decide if this liquid I saw, even for the split-second that I saw it, was water; it had this ethereality that I could not understand. The picture still flashes in my head, every time the liquid seeming to be something different.

Was this a dream? I'm not good at dream interpretation but I did pretty well in lit classes, so...perhaps the fountain, being in the center...represents the core, or rooted base for the life force (the water-like substance) in the garden. The fountain is the source of the life force, and what ebbs from it changes when you see it, because life changes. It's different colors and different shimmers because sometimes in life, you're young (chronologically or at heart) and full of energy and happiness, and at other times, you're more melancholy, or chaotic or joyful or angry etc...

What is a flower garden weed that is completely maroon with tiny yellow flowers?

The weed is completely maroon. The leaves look like upside down hearts and are arranged in a "four leaf clover look-a-like "pattern. Instead of the leaf spread out flat, it hangs down thus making it look like an upside down heart. The stalk and leaves are solidly maroon in color.

I believe you are describing Oxalis. There is an ornamental plant called: Oxalis regnellii atropurpurea, which is pictured in the link. There are many other oxalis, and lots of those are weeds. Further, some oxalis do bloom yellow. I have also seen pink blooms on plants with maroon foliage.
