Has anyone used Crepe Myrtles for flower arranging?

How far down did you go ( I read to "prune" no further than the width of the thumb) and did you harm the tree? How long did the cutting last? It seems to me the flowers would be fragile since I have them all over my yard!

Has anyone used Crepe Myrtles for flower arranging?
The cuttings don't last that long; they will drop the leaves of the littel flowers everywhere. But, I think a big cluster of one color would be gorgeous.

Flower arranging materials?

I'm looking for a variety of good quality silk flowers and the other materials needed to make arrangements and bouquets from the Toronto area.

Flower arranging materials?
HobbyLobby has the best silks stems...and they put them on 1/2 price about every other week. They have a website...don't know if you can place an order with them.
Reply:Hobby Lobby and Michael's are both pretty good. Hobby Lobby has a lot of good sales and sometimes you can get 50% off stems or floral bushes.

Flower arranging medium?

what is the stuff called that can be used to arrange artificial flowers. It looks clear, like water, but dries to a solid.

Know where I can get it?

Flower arranging medium?
Yes, craft stores that carry artificial flowers can help you; you could call around to save a trip and see what they can tell you.
Reply:Most Craft Shops (Hobby Lobby, Michaels) carry it or can tell you where to get it...
Reply:Don't remember what it's called, but any craft store can help.
Reply:Hello Vincent,

Your are looking for polymer crystals or could be called water crystals. They can be purchased in small quanities at a craft store or online in different quanities %26amp; sizes small med or large. The craft stores have them in colors which make beautiful flower arrangements. These can also be found in the garden department of most stores. I have seen the at K-Mart garden department.

We just launched a new website with lots of gardening tips stop in and visit us at secilysgardentips.com

What are some good books on Flower arranging and owning a florist shop?

One book I like is Creative Design-Flower Arranging by Jan Hall and Sarah Waterkeyn. It has flowers, equipments used, care of flowers, etc. Or go to the library where there's a lot of flower arranging books, or

get an apprentice job at a local flower shop. You'll learn how to clean and care for flowers and plants first before you can learn how to arrange flowers. You might be asked to clean buckets, answer phones, make bows, clean floors and other routine tasks that floral shops have to do everyday. By doing that, you would be able to gauge if you are really inclined to open your own flower shop. Local florists are going by the wayside because of internet floral gatherers, do you think you can compete with these internet businesses that are well financed? If you have a considerable amount of money to start your own floral shop business, you might want to buy an existing flower shop with existing accounts, and hopefully you have a marketing background to be able to market it. Good luck!

What are some good books on Flower arranging and owning a florist shop?
Your best bet would most likely be to actually work for a florist for a few months, say six months. Learn the tricks of the trade, the ins and outs, pick up on the nuances and subtleties that make for a great florist.

Customer service is number one here, make your focus that, practice arranging flowers, look for ideas everywhere, weddings, magazines, movies, the park (mother nature has a green thumb too!), and yes, even funerals ans hospitals.

Be imaginative (but not crazy), think of the purposes that flowers are given and go from there. Put yourself in the recipient's place and think about what you would expect from a floral arrangement. The sky is the limit!

Good Luck.
Reply:The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal %26amp; Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting A Flower And Gift Shop by Millicent Gray Lownes-Jackson

* Start and Run a Profitable Retail Business by Jim Dion, Ted Topping

* Retail Business Kit for Dummies by Rick Segel

* So You Want To Own The Store: Secrets to Running a Successful Retail Operation by Mort Brown

go to video jug.com they have lots of [ how to do ] informative videos
Reply:Make sure all flowers are in odd numbers and different heights.
Reply:The use of "Frogs" can help you achieve a nice, uniform arrangement. They vary in size and height. The 'Frog' is a round disc that has holes which are layered in height. The holes are short from outside and get higher to the inside. these are usually used in clear vases.

Floral foam can be inserted into a non clear vase and will soak up water to help keep the flowers drinking. Just cut with knife to fit the vase. This is a better versatility, as the shorter flowers can also be used. Hope this helps.
Reply:Take a nice vase, cut the ends of your flowers and plonk them in. Simple as that - the more contrived your arrangement, the less natural it is.

How do you get a talent badge in Cosmetics and flower arranging in the sims 2?

For cosmetics? (is this hairdressing?) you have to buy a chair to do make overs in, and then do a bunch of make overs on people. I don't know how many, specifically. For flower arranging, you have to buy a flower arranging table. Then make arrangements and sell them. You can only earn badges while you're in control of your sim, they don't earn them while working for others.

Any tips or tricks for flower arranging?

My husband bought me a grocery store bouquet. How do I make it look more professional?

Any tips or tricks for flower arranging?
Great answer about the greenery! Don't overlook any herb greenery, you may have like basil .They add great aroma. Also add some small pebbles or marbles to vase as you arrange to help support the stems. Just add water to vase and gently drop small stones around and between stems to hold flowers apart. Much easier to use than floral foam or clay. And kiss that nice husband twice.
Reply:Go outside and trim various kids of available greenery to flesh it out. Grocery store bouquets usually have little or no greenery to go with them. Just check out the local shrubbery.:-)

Frogs for flower arranging?

I have just recently started collecting glass frogs that are intended for arranging flowers. They are so pretty. I would like to get some ideas for other uses for them or even display ideas. Any ideas will be appreciated, thanks!

Frogs for flower arranging?
Did you know you can make your own with a pair of wire cutters, needlenose pliers, wire %26amp; beads/bangles.

Off the top of my head I'm picturing different colored fabric, tissue or crepe paper being threaded through the openings of multi- colored frogs, then hung from the ceiling so it looks like a rainbow.

I would also think you could combine the different themed frogs with other crafty things to make themed wall hangings - maybe even one in the shape of a frog!
Reply:floating candles, candy dish,
Reply:you could paint a few with colors of your choice cause they do come in many colors in real life and use them as decreation in the yard . my mother collected . frogs from ceramic to stuffed animals . she even got a tattoo of one on her arm with lilly pads . some frogs are a perfect gift at christmas birthdays and make great thank you gifts as well i hope this helps
